Windsurfing: Levington Wind Direction: NW Wind Stength: 10/20 Surf / Sea State: river chop Air Temperature: 9 Sea Temperature: 13 Weather: cloudy Max Speed: 25.17 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 17.40 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Loads of wind forecast for days to come but mainly North which is not the
best of directions over this way with the best local option being the River
Stour at Bradfield or Wrabness. At 9.30 the wind was still NW but not that
strong maybe gusting to 15 kts so didn't fancy a 20 mile trip to the Stour
so opted to go to Levington on the River Orwell and sail the tide in. NW is
slightly off from the right so you can sail on the wide bend in front of
the marina, there was no white water but I took a chance with 8.5 on my big
xantos and set off near the marina entrance. The set up was OK as usual
river sailing the wind is up and down but I had nearly two hours out
planning a lot of the time, the wind threatened to become too much but the
big gusts didn't last and then the wind turned more to the north making it
very gusty so beat back to the van to warm up. The sun came out and it
rained at the same time, very pretty so I decided to pack up. I had covered
over 17 n/miles and didn't get cold with a top speed of over 25 kts with a
23 kt ave., not bad for the lumpy river. I was looking forward to posting
the speeds but my old GPS failed again :( time to us my new one I think. Do
I make the trip to the Stour tomorrow ??? it depends if anyone else goes as
I don't fancy sailing by myself!
